Downtown Dash 2011

On March 13th, 2011 the Family Medicine Residency participated in the Downtown Dash in an effort to increase Stoke Awareness and save lives.

"Glendale Adventist became certified as the first Primary Stroke Center in the San Fernando Valley in 2007. Thanks to community involvement, the Downtown Dash has raised over a hundred thousand dollars to help educate the community on stroke awareness and enhance treatment options for stroke patients. For more information go to http://www.GlendaleDowntownDash.org"

Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of a Stroke:
· Sudden numbness/weakness in face, arm, leg (especially on one side of the body)
· Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech
· Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
· Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
· Sudden severe headache with no known cause

Helping Hearts Across Boarders

I'm touched with compassion and happy to share, that this February our residents participated in Healing Hearts Across Borders “to bring healing for the body and hope for the heart to the poor in tijuana, mexico.”

"Healing Hearts Across Borders volunteers travel to Tijuana, Mexico four times per year to set up a free clinic at two different locations, including the makeshift village at the Tijuana garbage dump. We have a full-service mobile laboratory where we can do basic blood, urine, and stool tests, including diabetes screening and pregnancy tests. In addition to providing free medical and dental care, we distribute vitamins, food, clothing, toys, and hygiene products to the patients who visit our sites. We see over 1,000 patients on each weekend trip."
